Florida Man Pretending To Be A Cop Arrested After Trying To Stop A Real Cop

Matthew Joseph Erris, 26

A Florida man was arrested for impersonating a police officer after he tried to pull over an undercover cop driving in an unmarked car. 26-year-old Matthew Joseph Erris turned on the flashing red and blue lights he installed in the grill of his 2007 Chevy Trailblazer in attempt to get the car in front of him to pull over.

When the undercover officer did not pull over, Erris turned off the flashing lights and drove past him. The detective then called 911 to report what happened and another officer in a marked police car pulled over Erris.

Erris admitted to installing the red and blue lights in his vehicle so he could avoid traffic. He was taken into custody and charged with impersonating a police officer. He was released from jail after posting a $2,000 bond.

Officials say they are unsure if Erris has pulled over other motorists and asked anybody who believes they have been victimized to contact them at 813-247-8200.
