The First Extended Trailer For 'The Crown' Season 3 Just Dropped

In the first full-length trailer for the upcoming third season of Netflix's The Crown, Academy Award winning actress Olivia Colman takes over the role of Queen Elizabeth II from Claire Foy. Foy played the long reigning monarch during the first two seasons of the hit royal drama, which covered the early years of Queen Elizabeth's rule. As the show jumps ahead in time for the third season, Colman will portray an older, more experienced Queen Elizabeth.

Though Queen Elizabeth may be older and more experienced in the upcoming third season, the extended trailer shows the monarch struggling as a leader. The trailer opens in 1977 as queen Elizabeth celebrates Silver Jubilee aka the 25th anniversary of her ascension to the throne. The grand occasion has left Queen Elizabeth feeling more morose and introspective. "On days like today," Colman's Queen Elizabeth states, "ask yourself: In the time I've been on the throne, what have I actually achieved?"

In a scene between Queen Elizabeth and her younger sister, Princess Maraget (played now by Helena Bonham Cater), the monarch laments her legacy. "This country was still great when I came to the throne," Queen Elizabeth can also be heard saying in the trailer. "All that's happened on my watch is the place has fallen apart."

The third season takes place during Harold Wilson's time as Prime Minister in 1977 and is set to cover many prominent historical events, including the Aberfan disaster, the Apollo 11 moon landing and Princess Margaret's much publicized affair with Roddy Llewellyn, as well as her subsequent divorce from Anthony Armstong-Jones.

Fans of the real life royal family will also be excited to see the fictionalized versions of Prince Charles' wives introduced in the third season, as well. Emerald Fennell will play the heir's forbidden first love, Camilla Parker Bowles, while Emma Corrin has been cast as Princess Diana. It's expected Corrin will have a minor role in the third season and an expanded role in the already green-lit fourth season.

The third season of The Crown will drop on November 17th. Will you be tuning in?
