Halsey Admits She's Still Scared Of 'Cancel Culture' Ruining Her Career

Speaking to Elle Australia, Halsey was candid about her career, 'cancel culture' and if she ever sees herself quitting music all together.

Being in her position, Halsey knows that there's a microscope on everything she does and says and one wrong quote could mean the end of her career. Being a millennial, and one who is on Twitter all the time, Halsey revealed in the interview that she is still scared of 'cancel culture' and the ramifications of it.

“When I first started out, my team didn't really understand cancel culture,” she said. “There would be a bad response to something I said and I would be like, 'This is it, I'm done.' And everyone would be like, 'Relax, you're not going to lose your career over one thing you said on the Internet.' Now it's like, 'No, you actually f****ing can.'”

But do you think this is scaring her? Heck no. Known for speaking out, Halsey is not one to back down and will continue to use her massive platform to stand behind the things she sees are important — much like what she sings about in “Nightmare.” She believes those with a platform need to speak out as long as it's real and even discussed it with another woman in the industry.

“If I could make sense of everything that was going on in the world right now, I wouldn't be a musician,” she said. “Taylor Swift and I were once talking about our positions as female in culture and she said, 'We're not gladiators, we're musicians.'”

Halsey is performing at this year's iHeartRadio Jingle Ball in New York City, alongside a star-studded lineup. Fans will be able to watch the show on December 13th via an exclusive livestream on The CW App and CWTV.com. The CW Network will also broadcast the event as a nationwide special on Thursday, December 19th at 8pm ET. Fans will also be able to listen to December 13th's festivities across the country on 100 iHeartRadio CHR stations.
